SunSaver Classic 16,000mAh Power Bank

This is what stores the solar power for you to use any time. The massive battery can store enough power to  fully recharge a smartphone 2.5 – 5.5 times (Based on a 4,000mAh and 1,800mAh battery capacity, respectively), and with dual USB outputs, it can charge two devices at the same time.

The Classic is waterproof, shockproof, and dustproof, so that it can charge up your phone in any situation. It also has a built-in LED flashlight that lasts for over 50-hours from one charge and is powerful enough to light up an entire campsite.

This is what generates the solar power. The solar panels are powerful enough to store up several charges for a smartphone into a power bank during a sunny day in direct sunlight.

Can the Power-Boost charge my smartphone directly from solar?

Short answer: Sometimes

Long answer: It depends on the strength of the sunlight and your phone’s Minimum Charging Current, or MCC. The MCC is the lowest amount of electrical power required to start the charging process for a phone or any other USB-powered device.

Different phones and devices will have a different MCC. The higher the MCC, the sunnier it needs to be for the Power-Boost to start charging and storing power in the phone or device.

For instance, tablets and some smartphones have a very high MCC meaning that it needs to be a sunny day in direct sunlight to recharge from the Power-Boost. On the other hand, most mobile power banks and battery packs have a low MCC, so even on a cloudy day or in indirect sunlight, power can be stored from the Power-Boost.

Therefore, it is generally the most efficient to use a power bank as an intermediate power store between the Power-Boost and a smartphone.

However, because the SunSaver Classic has such a low minimum charging current, it can be charged by the Power-Flex even in low light conditions; the Classic can then be used to charge any smartphone.
